US Bans Uranium Mining Near Grand Canyon

Law360, New York (January 9, 2012, 4:37 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior on Monday said it will ban future uranium mining on more than 1 million acres of public land near the Grand Canyon for the next 20 years in order to study the effects of such mining on the nearby Colorado River Basin watershed.

“We have been entrusted to care for and protect our precious environmental and cultural resources, and we have chosen a responsible path that makes sense for this and future generations,” Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said...
