SC High Court Takes Up Conservation Suit Against Carnival

Law360, New York (January 17, 2012, 7:39 PM EST) -- The South Carolina Supreme Court has agreed to take up a citizen suit accusing cruise company Carnival Corp. of breaking local zoning ordinances in Charleston, S.C., and violating state pollution controls, according to an order made public Tuesday.

The South Carolina Coastal Conservation League and three local preservation groups filed the suit in June in state court, challenging Carnival’s decision to base one of its cruise ships, the Fantasy, out of Charleston and claiming that the ship has dumped waste into local waters.
