GSK Settles Bulk Of Avandia MDL Cases

Law360, Los Angeles (January 17, 2012, 8:25 PM EST) -- GlaxoSmithKline PLC has settled a majority of state cases and multidistrict litigation cases over its alleged failure to warn consumers about health risks related to diabetes drug Avandia, which has been linked to increased occurrences of heart attack and stroke, the company said Tuesday.

The cases were resolved through mediation on Jan. 13, GSK said in an email. Settlement payments will be funded through existing cash resources, but the financial terms of the deals are confidential, according to Bernadette King, GSK's director of product communications....
