Verizon And Broadcom Form Pact Over Chips

Law360, New York (July 19, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Broadcom Corp. and Verizon Wireless unveiled a licensing agreement Thursday that will allow Verizon to continue to import and sell handsets and other wireless technology that use the patents at issue in Broadcom's long running squabble with Qualcomm Inc.

The move should be a positive one for Verizon, which had sought to overturn a U.S. International Trade Commission ban of the import of all phones that use Qualcomm chips, which the agency said infringed Broadcom's patent.
