Deepwater MDL Judge Revamps Atty Fees Order

Law360, New York (January 18, 2012, 10:34 PM EST) -- The Louisiana federal judge overseeing multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on Wednesday retooled his previous order directing BP PLC's $20 billion settlement fund to set aside a portion of future settlements to pay for litigation costs.

In December, U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier had instructed the Gulf Coast Claims Facility to deposit 6 percent of all future payments to oil spill claimants into a court-supervised escrow account to cover potential litigation fees for the plaintiffs’ lawyers.
