EU Tells Member States To Reform Tax Policies

Law360, New York (July 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has told Italy, Austria, Germany and Finland that their policies for taxing dividends paid to companies and shareholders violate European Union law, and has ordered the member states to amend the legislation.

The Commission warned the four member states on Monday, sending Austria and Germany reasoned opinions, the second step in an infringement procedure, and sending Italy and Finland requests for information, the first stage of an infringement procedure.
