New DOT Rule Will Speed Up Transit Award Process

Law360, Washington (January 25, 2012, 3:21 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation on Wednesday introduced a new proposed rule intended to streamline the process for awarding big transit project contracts by changing the way it measures cost effectiveness, environmental benefits and economic development potential of projects.

The proposed changes, published in the Federal Register, could potentially shave six months or more off the time that is now required to move major projects through the Federal Transit Administration’s New Starts pipeline of projects, according to the DOT.
