Data Brokers Must Be More User-Friendly — Or Else: FTC

Law360, New York (January 26, 2012, 1:22 PM EST) -- Federal Trade Commissioner Julie Brill called on data brokers Thursday to give consumers greater access to the information they collect, suggesting they could face enforcement actions similar to those the agency has brought against Facebook Inc. and Google Inc. if they don’t.

In a speech at a privacy forum in Washington, broadcast by Facebook’s Washington office, Brill said data brokers should create a mechanism to make their practices more transparent and make consumers more aware about what they do with personal information.
