Ephedra Still Causing Headaches For Diet Pill Makers

Law360, New York (July 23, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Despite the recent dismissal of a spate of claims over ephedra, strong evidence linking the now-banned stimulant to plaintiffs' injuries has bumped the stakes for diet pill makers in the long-running multidistrict litigation.

The legal fallout over ephedra—which has been linked to dozens of heart attacks and more than 100 deaths—has already forced some diet pill makers to shell out millions of dollars in settlement costs and bankrupted others.
