Medtronic Infringes Guidant Stent Patents, Jury Finds

Law360 (February 19, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a decision that could lead to damages of up to hundreds of millions of dollars, a federal jury in Delaware has found that medical device maker Medtronic Inc. infringed rival Guidant Corp.'s patents for drug-coated stents.

The jury in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware found that the Guidant Lau patents at issue are valid and that certain Medtronic stents, including the S7 and Driver stents, infringe those patents, the company said.
