AIG Avoids $7M Claims Over Utah Mine Coverage

Law360, New York (January 27, 2012, 8:19 PM EST) -- A Utah federal judge on Friday dismissed a $7 million suit against American International Group Inc. over coverage for the 2007 Crandall Canyon Mine collapse that killed six miners, finding the court did not have jurisdiction over AIG.

The suit was brought by mutual insurance company Associated Electric & Gas Services Ltd. in April, seeking reimbursement for its portion of a 2009 settlement with rescued, injured miners and the families of the ones killed. AIG had refused to pay for coverage for any of the entities...
