China Loses WTO Appeal On Raw Material Exports

Law360, New York (January 30, 2012, 1:11 PM EST) -- The World Trade Organization Appellate Body ruled Monday that China's export restrictions on industrial raw materials violate WTO rules, rejecting the country's argument that the policies are justified to address environmental and conservation goals.

Trade officials in the U.S. and European Union, which in 2009 challenged China's policies on materials including bauxite, coke, magnesium and zinc, praised the Appellate Body's ruling.
