Hair Care Co. Irons Out Calif. AG's Formaldehyde Suit

Law360, New York (January 30, 2012, 8:10 PM EST) -- GIB LLC, the manufacturer of Brazilian Blowout products, reached a settlement with California's attorney general Monday, agreeing to pay $600,000 and warn consumers that its popular hair-smoothing solutions emit formaldehyde gas.

The two products targeted by the California lawsuit, Brazilian Blowout Acai Smoothing Solution and the Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Solution, have also spurred a consumer class action and a rebuke by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which said in September that the company was not being honest about the fact that its products contained...
