Transocean In Court Over Offshore Drilling Patents

Law360 (July 25, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Transocean Inc., the world’s largest offshore drilling company, filed suit Tuesday claiming that offshore drilling contractor Maersk Contractors USA Inc. has infringed on various patents covering deepwater drill technology.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Transocean alleged that Maersk Contractors has contracted to build an ultra deepwater submersible drilling rig that infringes on claims in four of Transocean’s patents. Transocean also alleged that Maersk Contractors is planning to put the rig into operation by next summer....
