USDA Hit With FOIA Suit Over Deregulation Of GM Plants

Law360, New York (February 7, 2012, 5:50 PM EST) -- The Natural Resources Defense Council on Monday launched a Freedom of Information Act suit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture in New York federal court, seeking to force the agency to hand over documents related to its decision to deregulate genetically modified plants that resist weed killers.

The USDA is considering petitions to drop regulations on several herbicide-resistant varieties of corn and soybeans. The NRDC requested a list of those crops in October under FOIA, but the USDA has still not provided the information, according to the...
