Virginia Judge Tosses Out Rambus Patent Suit Vs. Infineon

Law360, New York (March 1, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move likely to create waves throughout the memory chip industry, a federal judge in Virginia has thrown out Rambus Inc.’s patent infringement claims against memory chip maker Infineon Technologies AG because the U.S. chip designer destroyed documents in anticipation of the case.

U.S. District Judge Robert Payne of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia said that the dismissal of the lawsuit was the “appropriate action” to punish Rambus for destroying documents in an alleged effort to prevent chipmakers from challenging...
