Chicago Businesses Cry Foul Over Mass Transit Defunding

Law360, New York (February 13, 2012, 6:59 PM EST) -- The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce urged Illinois' congressional delegation on Monday to reject a proposal to eliminate funding for mass transit projects from the federal gasoline tax.

The 2,600-member chamber, which promotes business development in the region around Chicago, asked Illinois' congressional delegation to reject a Republican proposal to eliminate the 2.86-cent per-gallon contribution from the federal gasoline tax that goes to fund mass transit projects and replace it with a one-time $40 billion cash infusion.
