Cisco To Appeal EU Approval Of $8.5B Microsoft-Skype Deal

Law360, New York (February 15, 2012, 3:54 PM EST) -- Telecommunications giant and electronics maker Cisco Systems Inc. said Wednesday that it would challenge the European Union antitrust regulator's approval of Microsoft Corp.’s $8.5 billion bid to take over Skype Technologies SA.

Cisco said it does not oppose the merger, but believes the European Commission should have placed conditions that would ensure “greater standards-based interoperability,” in order to prevent any one company from controlling the future of video communications.
