DOD Shelled Out $1B For Possibly Unnecessary IT, Report Says

Law360, New York (February 21, 2012, 8:13 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Defense may have spent $1.2 billion over the past five years on overlapping information technology purchases, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported Friday.

The agency accounted for 31 of the 37 potentially duplicative investments the GAO found in examining information technology spending by the DOD, the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for fiscal years 2007 to 2012, according to a report requested by Congress.
