Judge Awards $84.6M In Online Muni Bond Patent Spat

Law360 (July 31, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- To the delight of MuniAuction Inc., a federal judge has doubled a jury's $38.5 million damage award in a lawsuit that accuses Thomson Financial and related company i-Deal of infringing a patent that covers the online auction of municipal bonds.

Judge Gary L. Lancaster of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania also awarded MuniAuction $7.6 million in interest, for a total judgment of $84.6 million, and entered a permanent injunction banning the future sale of Thomson's electronic bid submission system.
