Umbilical-Cord Blood Storage Patents Challenged

Law360 (March 8, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- A California medical device maker has asked the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office to reexamine two patents at the center of a patent dispute that has rattled the fast-growing industry for umbilical-cord blood storage.

The move comes on the heels of a USPTO ruling earlier this month that overturned a PharmaStem Therapeutics Inc. patent related to the collection and preservation of stem cells.
