BP, Anadarko On Hook For Gulf Oil Spill Pollution: Judge

Law360, New York (February 22, 2012, 9:58 PM EST) -- A Louisiana federal judge found Wednesday that BP PLC and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. are liable for Clean Water Act violations caused by the April 2010 explosion of the Macondo well that the two companies co-owned.

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier found that the oil discharge occurred from the Macondo well after the explosion, stating that the two companies are liable for civil fines under the CWA, as much as $1,100 per barrel, according to a 2010 report on federal penalties by the Congressional Research Service....
