Tatung Pays Lucent $14M In Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (March 8, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Taiwanese electronics maker Tatung Co. has paid Lucent Technologies Inc. around $14 million after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled in Lucent's favor in their four-year patent license dispute.

The payment brings to a close a protracted patent dispute which hinged in part on whether an arbitrator appointed by Lucent was biased in favor of the telecom equipment maker.

In October 2000, Lucent initiated arbitration against Tatung because of Tatung’s alleged failure to pay any of the royalties required by their patent...
