European Mobile Giants Agree To App Privacy Standards

By Greg Ryan (February 27, 2012, 7:20 PM EST) -- Europe's largest mobile operators and a U.K.-based industry group unveiled voluntary app privacy guidelines Monday, days after the largest U.S.-based app platform providers agreed to legally enforceable privacy standards.

Vodafone Group PLC, Deutsche Telekom AG, France Telecom SA Orange and other European mobile operators are implementing the guidelines for their own branded apps, according to global mobile industry advocate the GSM Association. The publishing of the guidelines follows Wednesday's announcement by California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris that Apple Inc., Google Inc., Inc. and three other major U.S.-based platform providers had agreed to an app privacy agreement.
