Independent Labels Score Lime Wire Copyright Settlement

Law360, New York (March 1, 2012, 4:12 PM EST) -- Independent music rights agency Merlin BV has reached a “groundbreaking” settlement to end copyright infringement claims against defunct peer-to-peer file sharing service Lime Wire LLC, Merlin said Wednesday.

Merlin said the out-of-court resolution of its copyright infringement allegations marked the first time its more than 12,000 independent record label members have participated in a copyright settlement against a global peer-to-peer file sharing service.
