IP Pitfalls Undermine Government Funding Of R&D

Law360 (March 13, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- In 1980 the United States Government funded almost 50% of all research and development conducted in the United States.  By the year 2000 the amount had dwindled to less than 25%.

A Department of Defense (DoD) survey comparing the awards for research, development, test and evaluation with the Business Week R&D scorecard for the Fortune 500 Industrials found that more than 92% of the industry leaders that invest in R&D had insignificant or no involvement with the DoD.
