EU Says Reuters Antitrust Probe Has Reached 'Critical Stage'

Law360, New York (March 8, 2012, 2:23 PM EST) -- A Thomson Reuters Corp. proposal seeking to ease antitrust concerns that its securities identification system prevents customers from switching to rivals has proven unsuccessful, and a probe of the company has now reached a “critical stage,” the European Union’s competition chief said Thursday.

Joaquin Almunia, vice president of the European Commission responsible for competition policy, likened his agency's probe of Reuters to the investigation of the now-doomed merger between Deutsche Boerse AG and NYSE Euronext.
