DOJ May Force E-Book Industry To Dump Legal Sales Model

Law360, New York (March 8, 2012, 9:56 PM EST) -- An antitrust suit by the U.S. Department of Justice accusing Apple Inc. and five major publishers of conspiring to fix e-book prices could force the media companies to abandon an otherwise lawful pricing model, experts say.

Over the past two years, the e-book industry has faced mounting antitrust scrutiny and, recently, a wave of private suits claiming that it conspired to craft a new model for e-book sales about the time the iPad hit the market in 2010.
