5 Charged In Katrina Home Repair Funds Scandal

Law360, New York (March 8, 2012, 7:29 PM EST) -- Four contractors and a special projects coordinator with New Orleans Affordable Homeownership, a scandal-plagued city agency, were charged Thursday with stealing or conspiring to steal federal grant funds intended to support home remediation work after Hurricane Katrina.

The contractors pocketed thousands of dollars in funds for work such as gutting, boarding and grass cutting that they never actually performed, accepted overpayments and, in the case of two defendants, plotted with a onetime NOAH executive director to steal funds from the agency and pay her kickbacks, according...
