Calif. Mulls Easing Abortion Law As Other States Set Limits

Law360, San Diego (March 9, 2012, 6:22 PM EST) -- As other states take steps to restrict abortion laws, California is on deck to consider a bill introduced last month that would allow for women to have easier access to abortions during the first trimester.

The bill, S.B. 1501 — introduced Feb. 24 by state Sen. Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego — would permit nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives and physician assistants to perform so-called “aspiration” abortions, in which a suction technique is used to remove a fetus and placenta from the uterus.
