University of Miami Says Medicaid FCA Suit Lacks Facts

Law360, New York (March 13, 2012, 5:14 PM EDT) -- The University of Miami on Monday urged a judge to toss an ex-employee’s whistleblower suit claiming its medical center fraudulently billed Medicaid for millions of dollars and that the school retaliated against him when he spoke up, saying no sufficient facts support the allegations.

In a dismissal motion filed in Florida federal court, the university said that Dr. Julio Licinio had insufficiently pled his allegations that the medical center’s behavioral health unit used Medicaid funds to pay claims that weren’t preauthorized, paying inflated costs for mobile...
