ABA To Mull Law Firms' Compulsory Retirement Rules

Law360, New York (August 7, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A resolution will be presented to the American Bar Association next week calling on the nation's law firms to scrap their controversial mandatory retirement rules as thousands of baby boomer attorneys hit the age ceiling.

The resolution, sponsored by the New York State Bar Association, calls on the ABA to recommend that firms abandon the outworn practice and assess senior partners based on performance criteria, not birth dates.
