Labels Urge 8th Circ. To Bring Back $1.5M File-Sharing Verdict

Law360, New York (March 13, 2012, 5:29 PM EDT) -- Several major record companies asked the Eighth Circuit on Monday to reinstate a jury's damages of $1.5 million in a file-sharing suit against a woman accused of illegally downloading music, saying her due process argument to reduce the award contradicts years of court precedent.

The companies — Capitol Records Inc., Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Arista Records LLC, Interscope Records, Warner Brothers Records Inc. and UMG Recordings Inc. — reject Jammie Thomas-Rasset's claim that the damages awarded were outside the reasonable range for willful copyright infringement....
