Sanofi-Aventis Fights Off Plavix Patent Challenge In Canada

Law360 (March 22, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- French drug maker Sanofi-Aventis SA has won a Canadian lawsuit to stop Apotex Inc. from launching a generic version of its top-selling drug, the blood thinner Plavix.

Canada's Federal Court issued the ruling late Monday, rejecting Apotex's challenge to the Plavix patent and holding that the asserted claims are novel, not obvious and infringed.

Apotex said it planned to appeal the case.
