Pentagon Requires Signoff On $1M-Plus Commercial Buys

Law360, New York (March 15, 2012, 7:06 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense amended its acquisition rules on Monday to require contracting officers to seek higher approval before purchasing more than $1 million in commercially available purchases, a move that could place restrictions on common services purchased by the government.

The DOD final rule implements a recommendation made by the 2009 Panel on Contracting Integrity, which criticized the DOD's lax documentation requirements determining that certain items can be purchased under more relaxed procurement standards for generally available items.
