6th Circ. Rejects Bid-Rigging School Official's Plea Appeal

Law360, Chicago (March 15, 2012, 10:45 PM EDT) -- The Sixth Circuit rejected a former Michigan public school official's challenge Wednesday to the 46-month prison sentence he received after he copped to rigging contract competitions, finding the defendant failed to show that his counsel gave him shoddy advice on his plea agreement.

A three-judge panel rejected the post-conviction appeal launched by Douglas A. Benit, who pled guilty in November 2008 to one count each of mail fraud and bank fraud after he was charged with using his administrative position in the Ecorse public school district...
