Panel Recommends Standardized Medicare Treatment Fees

Law360, Washington (March 16, 2012, 5:21 PM EDT) -- The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission on Thursday recommended Congress reduce Medicare payments to hospitals and skilled nursing facilities and encourage the use of generic drugs in order to cut overall costs for the program.

The recommendations were part of MedPAC's March report to Congress and included a push to equalize doctor payments across the board, regardless of whether the Medicare beneficiary went to a hospital or private physician's office for the visit.
