DOT Wants Transit Environmental Reviews Pared Down

Law360, Chicago (March 16, 2012, 2:32 PM EDT) -- Federal transportation officials said Friday they were proposing a set of measures to streamline environmental reviews for transit projects as part of their response to President Barack Obama's recent push for federal agencies to help speed infrastructure and job development by using more efficient review processes.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogof said that their proposed rules, a notice of which appeared in Thursday's Federal Register and on which the public will have 60 days to comment, will reduce procedural hurdles...
