US Hits Chinese Solar Panel Cos. With Subsidy Tariffs

Law360, New York (March 20, 2012, 6:33 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce on Tuesday imposed countervailing duties on Chinese solar panel makers the agency said are propped up by government subsidy programs, a determination lauded by U.S. solar companies who claimed China was edging them out of the domestic market.

The trade agency announced its preliminary determination that Chinese producers of photovoltaic solar cells have received countervailable government subsidies ranging from 2.9 percent to 4.73 percent.

Commerce's final determination is scheduled for June 4. The ITC will make its own final determination July...
