Judge Tosses Calif. County's Vioxx Class Action

Law360, Los Angeles (March 21, 2012, 5:40 PM EDT) -- A Louisiana federal judge on Tuesday tossed the county of Santa Clara, Calif.'s proposed class action against Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. over misleading statements about the safety of the painkiller Vioxx, ruling Santa Clara lacks standing to bring fraud claims under the law of New Jersey, where the drugmaker is based.
