High Court Health Reform Battle Focuses On Tax Law

Law360, New York (March 26, 2012, 6:23 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court justices tore into the first day of hearings over the federal health care overhaul Monday, appearing eager to hurdle an 1867 tax statute that could delay a ruling on the controversial reforms until 2015.

Their questions, however, prompted anxiety from the U.S. solicitor general, who pleaded with the justices not to do anything that could declaw the tax law, even as he argued that it shouldn't apply to the health care law's individual mandate.
