NRC Greenlights Scana's $10B SC Nuclear Reactor Project

Law360, New York (March 30, 2012, 4:13 PM EDT) -- A Scana Corp. subsidiary on Friday won the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's blessing for a $10 billion project to construct two nuclear reactors in South Carolina, marking the second time in more than three decades that the government has granted such approval.

The NRC voted 4-1 to allow two new 1,117-megawatt units at Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, about 26 miles outside of Columbia, S.C., following a staff review of safety and environmental issues.
