Fla. Appeals Court Affirms $3.4M Award To Smoker's Widow

Law360, New York (March 28, 2012, 5:34 PM EDT) -- A Florida appeals court last week affirmed a $3.4 million jury award against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and Philip Morris USA Inc. for the widow of a man who died of lung cancer after smoking for more than four decades.

In a one-page per curiam affirmation filed on Friday, Florida’s First District Court of Appeal left untouched the February 2011 jury award of $3 million in punitive damages and $375,000 in compensatory damages to the 81-year-old widow of John Huish.
