China, Qualcomm Deadlock In Talks Over 3G Royalties

Law360, New York (April 3, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Secret negotiations between China and U.S. wireless technology company Qualcomm over royalty payments for 3G intellectual property rights have ended up in a stalemate, according to local media reports.

Talks are in a deadlock after Qualcomm declined to reduce the royalty rate for its WCDMA patent, Sinocast reported.

Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson have agreed to lower their WCDMA patent royalty, but Qualcomm has refused to budge, Sinocast repored, citing “insiders.”
