5 Hit With New Indictment In $14.5M Medicare Scam Case

Law360, New York (March 28, 2012, 8:59 PM EDT) -- Michigan federal prosecutors unveiled a new indictment Tuesday for five people scheduled to face trial in June, accused of participating in a $14.5 million Medicare fraud scheme involving kickbacks to patients and bogus physical therapy services.

The third superseding indictment alleges the five conspired with others to submit fraudulent Medicare claims for physical and occupational therapy services that were never needed and were never actually provided, offering kickbacks and bribes to patients and creating bogus medical records and other documentation.
