FDA Rebuffs BPA Ban For Now, Citing Lack Of Scientific Data

Law360, New York (March 30, 2012, 4:44 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday rejected a closely watched bid to ban bisphenol A from food packaging, finding an advocacy group's petition did not wield enough scientific data on BPA's harms for the agency to change its regulations now.

Ahead of a Saturday deadline, the FDA stressed it was not issuing a final safety determination on BPA. Instead, the agency said it was weighing in on the petition by the Natural Resources Defense Council, which was not backed up by enough scientific evidence...
