Ex-Temple Med School Official Gets 7 Years For Health Fraud

Law360, New York (March 29, 2012, 6:38 PM EDT) -- A disgraced eye surgeon who bilked health insurers and Medicare in a multimillion-dollar scheme while head of ophthalmology at the Temple University School of Medicine must serve 87 months in prison and pay $1 million in restitution, a Pennsylvania federal judge ruled Thursday.

Dr. Joseph J. Kubacki, who was convicted in August on 150 counts of wire fraud, health care fraud and making false statements in a health care matter, also agreed to pay almost $700,000 to the federal government to settle False Claims Act litigation,...
