W.Va. Hospital Cos. Pay $2.25M Over FCA Medicaid Claims

Law360, Washington (March 30, 2012, 5:59 PM EDT) -- Two West Virginia health care companies paid the U.S. government $2.25 million to settle allegations that a nursing facility they formerly operated made false Medicare and Medicaid claims due to understaffing, the government announced Thursday.

Federal government officials alleged that a skilled nursing facility run by Monongalia Health Systems Inc. and Morgantown Health Care Corp. was understaffed and delivered substandard care that didn't meet Medicare and Medicaid standards. The alleged false charges occurred from Sept. 1, 2006, through May 31, 2007.
