Utah Medicaid Data Breach May Affect 780K People

Law360, New York (April 9, 2012, 5:08 PM EDT) -- As many as 780,000 Utah residents, including children, have had their Social Security number or other personal information stolen from a Utah Department of Health computer server that stored Medicaid and other claims, state officials said Monday.

The data breach initially took place March 30 when an error occurred at the password authentication level and allowed a hacker to circumvent the state’s Department of Technology Services’ security system, according to a joint statement from the agencies.
