EPA Rejects Groups' 2nd Shot At Ban On Lead Ammo

Law360, New York (April 9, 2012, 7:47 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday refused for the second time to ban lead in bullets for hunting and sports under the Toxic Substances Control Act, after advocates told the agency that lead exposure through hunting threatens public health.

In a letter to the Center for Biological Diversity, the EPA said the March 13 petition for the ban is “substantially the same” as a 2010 petition that the agency denied after finding firearms and ammunition were exempt from its authority under the TSCA.
